If you were single -- was that one job really so irreplaceable that you couldn't have resigned and dated her? Why should a job be worth more than a companion in the grand scheme of life? Unless you're head of surgery at Sloan-Kettering or President of a nuclear power, talk about priorities and conceit here...
Anyway, my point wasn't to date the lady at work. My point was that he shouldn't be afraid of attempting to get to know her better. Not dating at work: resigning before any "dating" happens is an option.
All this assumes 6+ months of reserves in the bank, what any sane person over the age of 25 should have. You spend 1/3 of your waking life at work, and hopefully meet some interesting, bright people. Why not use the situation to full advantage?
