Most Cops can shoot better than most civilians.

Trade places with the Street cops and you might have done the same.

The words "Freeze" and "Don't Move" seem to be misunderstood by a lot of people. I have had a Kansas Trooper put a .40 cal S&W in my ear thru a car window because I looked just like Suspect #2 the day after the OKC Bombing. I DID EXACTLY WHAT HE TOLD ME TO DO. He never apologized for his actions and I did not expect him to. He is a Cop and saw what he thought was a wanted fugitive. My job was to DO EXACTLY AS INSTRUCTED and NOTHING ELSE.

It is a 2 way street. If you are told not to do something by a person or persons holding deadly force over you, your chances of staying ALIVE are to do EXACTLY what you are told.

I spent a lot of time in places where folks shot at each other all day. Beruit, Ruwanda, East Timor, Bosnia, Croatia, Miami (Overtown), Chicago (Cabrini Green), etc and all I had was a TV Camera, a Press ID and maybe a Stage 3 vest. When I was told by Israeli Defense Force, French Army, UNFOR, Local Militia, Cihcago PD, Miami Cops or some Tango with an AK to STOP, DON'T MOVE, PUT DOWN THE CAMERA, etc...I did EXACTLY WHAT THEY TOLD ME TO DO.

This action cost me at best 1 hr of my life (average) explaining whet I was doing or erasing a tape or stopped me from walking into a piece of ground shrewn with land mines and once it cost me my BetaCam. IT DID NOT COST ME MY LIFE.

Hands over your head and not reaching for ANYTHING is the BEST WAY TO STAY ALIVE. Wanna be a dead innocent? Move, Twist, Reach in front of a amped up individual holding a weapon who has less than 1 second to make a decision. You will certainly LOSE.

BTW Since the incident you referred to happened over 10 years ago, NYPD went thru a ton of retraining, carries 10 round mags and they switched the trigger springs in their Glock .9mm's from 3 lbs pull to 20 lbs pull (much like the old S&W .38 revolver and less likely to engage the trigger due to a slight squeeze). I have fired both the civilian Glock .9mm and the NYPD Glock .9mm and there is a BIG difference in trigger pull-the NYPD Glock 9 pulls like a P-38 Walther.

Compared to most other cities, NYC Cop Shootings are much lower.

Why didn't you say anything about the 6 cops shot in the past year in NYC? Or the NYPD Officer who took a knife in the head on the job? It is not an easy job to do by any means but if you have a percentage of the population that does not think that a Cop means it when they tell you to FREEZE or STOP or DO NOT MOVE then expect to incur a loss within that popopulation percentage.

Stop and Frisk has also taken TONS of Illegal Handguns OFF the Street. All of these weapons were illegally imported into NYC from areas where guns are sold with minimal bakground checks by FFL holders who knew what they were selling and to exactly to whom they were selling them. I don't see many of them in Jail. But I see a lot of inncocent people dead or hurting from it.

I work with a lot of young men who are classed as minorities and only a few ***** about Stop and Frisk. They realize they bear a stigma because of the actions of similar young men who are simply the same race or color. They have said that it is a small price to pay for a safer neighborhood.

I have also been a subject or Stop and Frisk. I did what they told me to do. Produced ID. Stated why I was where I was and they said "OK Be about your business".
