I would freshen up that engine a bit.

I belong to jeepforum.com and the guys over there are VERY knowledgeable when it comes to this kind of stuff and they frequent the discussion board about as often as people here.

My '02 has the 4.7 HO and I can tell you the v8 would not have dropped in. They have different transmissions.
