Put a 3:07 gear in it from an 82-84 300d turbo car. I had one in my 240 4 spd and it was much more pleasant to drive on the highway, fuel economy was excellent. Takeoff can be slow, so "drive it like you stole it" would apply.
Once you get used to the tall gear you will not want to go back.
