Closer, no. Not legally.
I had permission from a couple farmers in South Glastonbury near the river and Lebanon, although there were a couple Jeep clubs that also had permission to use the trails.
If I had time to do the volunteer trail maintenance days and attend meetings I probably would have joined one of them (but I had time for neither and knew the two old-timers that owned the land so I didn't) because a club is definitely the way to go in southern New England where land values and liability concerns drastically limit the options available. They take care of obtaining permission from the landowners(s), usually via property and trail maintenance, so they have access to trails not otherwise open to individuals.
Some guys like to run exclusively with particular makes so there are many brand-specific clubs out there, another option are clubs like
JonFund or
Eastern 4 Wheelers which are open to all makes.
