I'm relatively new to the scene - I bought an '87 560SL a bit under three weeks ago from a poster called NGARover who posts here and on another large Benz forum. Apparently he acquired it from someone here named Hogweed who purchased it from someone here named Huy. Interestingly enough, the for sale ad is here:

It was mislabeled as a 1986 in the ad, but looks pretty much like the one in the pictures from a few years ago. The Carfax came back clean - nothing unusual at all. The middle brake light was in the wrong position because it was missing two nuts, and the bumper was off from a very minor collision (since repaired). I inspected this thing like I go over aircraft. No rust anywhere.

The good: Very good daily driver condition, overall. Get in and go anywhere. I like the color combo better than any colors that were available. Completely unchanged from new except for the rims. I'd like some AMG replicas with the center painted body color someday.

The bad: Someone in the chain of owners had a cat that liked to hang out on the car. It has a lot of scratches that should come out with the Zaino that came in the mail today. Lots of typical stuff, like a bad top. One of the owners after Huy repaired the seat bottoms with gorilla tape. They were cracked; there's a reason why you can't see them in the ad. A/C is also still not functional, as it's apparently been for a while now. A new compressor, drier, and expansion valve are on order. In the meantime I plan on playing around with the vacuum pods. I restored power to the pod system a couple of days ago but still get nothing from the center vent. It's not behaving like the heater box is cracked at least.

Anyway I've been reading a mountain of information from this board and decided to register and chime in some. Expect an epic a/c and "while you're in there" thread sometime soon.

My one question is - does anyone know who sells the gasket that goes around the door handles? One of mine has some overspray on it.
