Good Lord. I read that 3 or 4 times and didn't see 'gallon.'

Imagine your gallon is .5 alcohol. Adding 1/4 gallon water, or one quart, yields a quantity of 1.25 gallons, still with .5 gallon of alcohol.

.5 divided by 1.0 = .5

.5 divided by 1.25 = .4
