im sure in part that, but also an open conflict directly south of China would be of major interest to the Chinese.
They sided with the North Koreans in 1950 as allies during that proxy war, backed by the Russians, but they declined to side with the North Koreans in the 70s, at least in so far as open conflict and renewed warfare, so it would be interesting to see which way they would go today, especially being so much further involved with the US these days economically.
Its an interesting balancing act.
Either way, its not worth forcing the Chinese to take a decided position on the matter!
Unless we could get them to side with South Korea and the US, which is unlikely unless North Korea makes a monumental gaffe
