Driving on the Meritt and Hutchinson into NYC. Our little group of three had formed in the preceding 25~30 miles and we were rolling between 85-95 mph, taking turns in the lead as we wound through the sparse traffic.
Just before the parkway runs under 287, my turn in front, and I fly by a cop buried in the bushes, speed gun pointed right at me....
I immediately slowed and pulled over onto the shoulder of the on ramp to 287, being the only place I could see where the officer wouldn't be taking his life in his hands walking on the side of the road. I was trying to be nice, hoping he would appreciate my consideration while writing the ticket.
Next thing I see is the cruiser go flying by and grab the guy driving behind me...
I proceeded to get back on the Hutch and drove slowly by my ticket-receiving friend-on-the-parkway who gave me a look that almost peeled the paint off the side of my car. Cop never looked...
All I can figure is the cop was looking back up the highway so he could come after me just as I was pulling off far over to the right on the ramp... when he got on the road, I was nowhere to be seen and the guy behind me was all he had left.
Happened years ago, but I always slow through that section now...
