Here's a wild guess, but it seems at least probable....the plastic JAW that attaches the window frame to the arm of the window motor has broken vertically and is stuck in the window track.

You will need to remove the door panel and cut the plasticc to really see what's going on...it's not very difficult to do. good luck.
