There is a remarkable difference in beam pattern. With the euros you get something to the effect of _/_/, with a very pronounced, evenly lit area immediately in front of the car, as well as the road shoulders. The US lights simply throw a couple sprays of light in front of you that don't allow you to see what is immediately in your path. I found the following link helpful for details on the upgrade:
