If down the road you want to swap the spedo, you need to use an 85 spedo for the 85 CD. 85 used the 2:88 Diff and the 80 (assuming it is a 300D) used a 3:46 Diff. the spedo is geared to the Differential.

If it matters to you, in addition to the F/PSI markings on the eary guages, there is a bright aluminum center-button on the early fuel/oil/temp face that matches the bright center-buttons on the early speedometer & clock pointers.
Otherwise, the early guages should swap right in.
