Have to be able to swim 4 lengths of an Olympic size pool-Freestyle.
First try...made it halfway..found the ladder...went home.
Second time..spent 1 hour doing different strokes..next day could hardly move.
Kept at it..did not quit.
Yesterday..finally swam one entire length freestyle.
Dont hurt as much now..built my confidence.
Point is, you can accomplish many things,as long as you set a goal.

Chil,
In late May of '71 just before leaving the Army I was put on what is called Exempt of Duty. This meant that I did not do my regular work any more because of nearing my discharge date. I started working every other night as Charge of Quarters in the billets. I worked from 5 at night until 7 the next morning, basically being responsible for the drunks after hours.
Since I was off during the day every day and since I had been paying seventeen cents a pack for cigarettes and they were going to be forty five cents a pack back home while going to college I decided it was time to quit smoking.
My girlfriend ran the municipal swimming pool and I was able to go there every day. Some times on weekdays we had the place all to ourselves for awhile. Great benefits when that happened.
I decided to start swimming to blow the crap out of my lungs. The first day it was all I could do to make it to the other end of the Olympic size pool. I thought it was going to take a winch truck to get me out of the water.
The next day I was sore, but to my surprise it was a little easier. By the time I was to leave for good about 45 days later, I could get in that pool and swim and swim and swim until I just got sick and tired of swimming. Of course I was only 22 at the time, but it was one of the greatest things I ever did for my body.
Since it's been some time since this post, have you gotten in shape and can swim long distance now?
