To a degree, that comment was taken out of context. She wasn't saying that miners should get two dollars a day, but praising the work ethic of those that do. Considering they're being held in squalor by competing dictators, it's hardly the case. Not to mention 2 completely different economics structures and an infinite amount of variables. But that's what I'm talking about. She has to be doing this on purpose.
Australia mining laws, to my understanding, monopolize the labor in that only Australians can work in them, or at least must get hired before foreigners can. So, naturally, they can demand an artificially high wage. There's certainly a case to be made they might be milking the situation, and I don't know what their union situation is.
