"Trust but verify" is a good thing to practice. Determine his skill set and figure out a plan for him, if that's what you plan to do. Desperate times call for desperate measures from this boy's perspective, and I'm glad he came knocking on your door.

For now, food and money will help get him back on his feet. But for the future, teaching him additional things will allow him to be self-sufficient.
