But it is seriously nasty to work with and requires a vented area and I recommend gloves up to the elbows, goggles and a 5 gal bucket of water nearby if you get it on bare skin. I wear a positive pressure respitrator when I use the stuff.

The company (Pyrock chemical) was owned by my neighbor Karl Ellinghaus, and he gave me several 5 gallon cans of the stuff that was "too potent for sale to the public" and I have been using it for the last 20 years. You can use it and then scrape off the stuff back into a 1 gal paint can with a screen filter and reuse the dregs at least twice. Then wash the surface with water and it is neutraized.
If you are stripping a soft or porus wood, expect to have to sand the result because the grain will be raised by the wash.
If you use it, READ THE WARNING on the can. Seriously, READ IT!
If you are concerned about Lead base paint, use Peel A Way, it uses Caustic Lye paste to melt the paint but the Lye turns the Lead into Lead Phosphate (less than 5 ppm of Lead content) and thus it is not a Haz Mat situation. It is safe enough that we use it during renovations for NYC Public Schools. EPA and DEP are OK with it as the Lead Paint is not turned into a dust or "flyable" danger but a thick paste that contains the hazard. It neutralizes with cheap White Vinegar or any Acetic Acid wash.

Thats the stuff I was talking about !
If your neighbor has the old Dow formulation booklet get a copy of it & post it for us all. There was a great de-carbonizing mix as well for cleaning pistons & heads.
