What kind of carrier bearing? Are you talking something inside the transmission, or the carrier bearing that holds up the driveshaft?

The latter is a piece of cake to replace. Mark the driveshaft, take it off, separate it into halves, replace the bearing, put everything back together.

On a W126 that'd be a 30-minute job.
