The self-propelled mowers with longer cranks for the drive-pulley are especially vulnerable to hitting stumps and other immoveable objects.
Most of the non-starting issues i've experienced are from the tiny jet clogging in the float-bowl mounting bolt.
Most of my small engines came with (or I added) fuel shut-offs so I can run-out / burn off the gas in the carb after every use, just in case I'm not certain how soon I'll be using it again.
One reason my Sachs-powered 1978 Wards Imperial moped is still running on it's original carb!
