In fairness to this guy, a crapload of major companies had already started playing this card back in 2011, when the first phases of OC kicked in. The provision that caused all the hoorah was the one essentially doubling the monetary amount of coverage companies had to offer their employees.
Story back in January last year that I saw, at least 35 major companies, one of them McDonalds, told the government that if they weren't granted an exemption from this requirement one of two things would happen - they would start laying off employees in statistically significant numbers, or they would completely drop employee medical coverage.
Feds rolled right over and granted all of them an exemption without so much as a whimper.
Or the one thread from a few months back - one forum member that lives in Nancy Pelosi's district provided links to stories in the local media, of how Aunt Nancy had granted exemptions to companies in her district that had curried (ie, bought) her favor, from having to comply with OC.
And in both instances, that's probably just the tip of the iceberg.
Hey, I'll at least give the guy credit for giving his employees some kind of warning - that if he gets hit with any more taxes or medical expenses under OC, he's going to be looking at laying people off or closing up shop altogether. Better than the situation with some companies, like I described in the thread about the WARN Act notifications - that will blow smoke up your butt until the last minute to keep you working away for them - then one day you get handed a pink slip courtesy of the 6 AM local news before you even leave the house.
