I'm not surprised. My dealer svc. dept. wouldn't look up the VIN after I told them it was in their computer. I was looking for a 1988 W124 rim part #.
It might be against MB or dealer policy to do so.
Unless you show up at the dealer, you're probably just wasting their time.
You used to be able to get a lot of info with the VIN from that old Russian site. I'm not so sure you can still get any info there, however. (At least not in English
)
