On that one, I'd tend to agree - that sounds like a one-off, someone seriously pranked that particular machine as a practical joke or stunt, to create controversy and make the evening news - it's so GD obvious, whoever had the talent to do it had to know it would be caught immediately.
OTOH, I have no reason to doubt the veracity of the story or the honesty of the person relating it - I've worked with the gent for 10 plus years, he being an assembly line supervisor in the same DTNA plant, and he's one of the most apolitical/nonpartisan people I've ever met - a true independent voter.
