Unequal caliper characteristics can result in uneven braking, pulling to a side, and uneven wear. At time of doing brakes is when most folks try truing up both sides, like always doing all pads across the axle etc.. Otherwise you're going in twice as often doing maintain on half the car and having to keep all that straight in your records. That's all.
