I think Chrome's memory usage on your machine Brian, might be linked to a plug in on Chrome.

I've had this install running since 4/16/2011

My normal usage is about ~400mb of ram. This machine has 6GB total.

It really all depends on what you're doing with the browser. If you've got a lot of compute intensive stuff plugged in..then it'll eat more resources. I also run Ad Block Plus, this blocks a bunch of flash based ads, that might help you in your situation. I bet those ads chew up gobs of memory. Maybe not a lot on one page, but with 10 tabs..

Put this in your address bar and you'll see which plugins are using the ram:

chrome://memory-redirect/
