If everything slowed down, I think it would cascade down hill pretty fast.
Generally speaking
-People holding on to things longer
-No need to build so many new things so fast and in high quantities as there is low demand.
-Low Demand = Companies cut production back
-Low Production = Less workers in both manufacturing and to perhaps a lesser extent R&D
-Higher unemployment numbers
This is basically the same argument that can be applied to when a new technology is employed.. i.e robots for automotive manufacturing, automated steel mills in the steel industry..etc.
