I would think that you could use a plate under the valve or in either of the connectors and keep it all hooked up. My plate is a bit smaller than the ones that I have seen for sale.

Keeping it looking stock is kind of important. Alway when trying to resell or pass inspection.

Edit: A piece of thin can material might work for a while but it will probably burn through. The material that is used for the accordion is a type of stainless steel not very thick but probably well made.
