I'm guessing it's because he went with the pencil plugs and they won't work with a 115 relay so instead of putting in a new relay, he just installed the push button. I think that's a good idea. But I think unless he unplugged the existing relay/timer it would still be operational with the key even if the wire going to the glowplugs is disconnected.
