The ALDA is made from brass that flexes- over time, this material fatigues and can crack, leaving you at the minimum setting. If the ALDA is removed, then you are at the maximum potential from the pump, but not all the time. Driven properly, there will be no adverse affect on the mileage, or excess smoke. In some cases the mileage may increase. Just use your foot wisely.
