I wouldn't be surprised that the cost has gone up. But because I bought it in two gallon jugs, either at WalMart, or Tractor Supply. They are the cheapest source for the 2 stroke oil. Also, I have used as little as 4 oz in the tank.
As for the comment about upper cylinder lubrication . . . what is two stroke oil designed for??? It is for adding to gas for two-stroke engines, which have no oil pump to get oil to the upper cylinder. If you look on the Lucas Bottle, it clearly identifies the Lucas as an upper cylinder lubricant. By my experience, the pour is exactly the same as Lucas, and the major difference is that Lucas contains an injector cleaner, which 2-stroke oil does not.
Hunter also provided charts showing that it also boosts the cetene level.
