Death for guys around us is a reminder of our mortality. Or perhaps makes us more aware of it for a time. Women I find to be more understanding and tollerant of it in some ways.
My wife tends to be more fatalistic for example. We all go the way of the dust at some point and there are no exclusions. Your daugther will make a rapid adjustment no doubt as it is part and parcel of her new field.
Another aspec is unfortunatly familiariy breeds contempt. This can perhaps be far better expressed. To me familiarity breeds acceptance that something is normal to a certain degree.
I never mean to imply it is something one takes with a grain of salt when another person passes. Dealing with it is just a part of life to adjust to. I dislike seeing even a dog go mind having the reponsibility to see him put down. For many sick people it is actually a good thing. It ends their pain and suffering if there is no upside.
