I was watching the History Channel's story of us series (yeah, I know, dumbed down and sped up, but it has value IMO) and they claimed that the Chinese also invented the firearm (long after inventing gunpowder) somewhere in the 1300s IIRC. They used it to drive out the Mongols whose warfare skills bases on horses and archery had long dominated. Also claimed that this invention spread throughout the world faster than any other.

Something with that kind of power to alter the course of destiny is unlikely to be suppressed. There is something about holding a firearm that gives power or a believable illusion of it to the bearer that can be a serious problem, to be sure.

Not sure this genie is going to be stuffed back into the bottle.
