The vacuum tube that goes to the left side of the transmission is for the shift modulator. If it is disconnected, I believe it will cause very hard shifts. The tube going to the right side is the upshift delay for emissions. It is not needed. In fact, it may even be desirable that it doesn't work, because it is a nuisance to keep the car in low gear until it heats up to a minimum operating temperature.

I have never removed mine, but if/when I do, I will definitely use the diagram and instructions as a reference.
