Well, that's what I'm asking -- is the difference in price versus the warranty worth it? For $475 (or whatever it was-- see previous post) I get pretty much a lifetime warranty (because all of the parts constitute a "muffler" and Midas warrants the "muffler" for life --- unlike other cars that also need pipes that are not warranted). The aftermarket mufflers are between $200 and $300+, plus shipping, tax and installation --brings it close to $275 to 380 -- no matter which muffler (Midas or other aftermarket product) and even an OEM from the MB dealer (probably $800- $1000) I may be looking at a life (due to short trips, salt etc.) of maybe 2 or 3 years. With Midas, $20 gets me all set with a new mufler in 2-3 years, the other route and its another about $300.

Plus Richard1 had the experience of the Midas doing better in salt.

Anyway, I think that if I were going the aftermarket I would look at Fastlane, who is kind enough to sponsor this forum.

I have pretty much convinced myself, though, that Midas is the way to go --

The question I still have is, does the rear muffler effect the performance of a car at an emissions test?

Thanks for the input
