No need to adjust, you just need to replace both plastic bushings -- one on the shift lever (take the console cover off -- one screw under the carpet at rear edge of the wood, pull off the surround around the shifter, lift wood at rear, unhook. Switches, etc come out with wood. Remove cover over shift quadrant, bushing goes in hole in lever) and the other on the tranny lever.
You will probably need to pull the tranny lever to get the bushing in, you do on the W115, W123, and probably W126 anyway.
New bushings will cure the sloppy lever. Bet it rattles, too!
