Exactly!

I have a pair of 91/30s, one is a 1943, which is pretty rough with sharp edges and tool chatter, and a 1938 which is pretty smooth. You can really see the years where quantity of build won the battle over craftsmanship of build.

I'm currently in the market for a replacement stock for the 1938. You can see where they dropped it in the box and split the stock through the bottom butt-plate screw, which is apparently common, judging by some of the arsenal splints I've seen. I read that it was a weak point of the stock. I injected some Gorilla Glue through a syringe in the crack, but I'm afraid that if I fire it, it will split more. I'm not interested in pinning the crack just now, I just want a replacement stock. I've found some that don't look too bad in the $30 range online, but you can't see cracks online.
