It can be done. One fellow I used to work with got out of his dozer to take a whiz, placed his M4 on the track, and then forgot about it until after he drove off. He got in a bit of trouble over that one 
Another time, a guy was driving along in a John Deere Gator, hit a bump, and his M16 bounced out of the vehicle and landed in front of it just in time to get run over. You'd be surprised how much damage a Gator can do to an M16. Bent the barrel, among other things.
