This is generic; when I was in Trade School they said you use a Water Manometer for Crankcase Pressure and a Mecury Manometer for Exhaust pressure.
And, I am speaking of the U Tubing type Manomenter filled with liquid with one end exposed to the Atmosphere and the other end hood to what you are taking the prssure of; not a Gauge with a needle that are also sometimes called Manometers.
