As dumb as it sounds, I was at a get together recently and was talking to a woman I know. She has COPD and was still smoking regular cigs. Switched to the eCigs and she says they don't make her cough at all.
I quit 20 years ago when the pregnant wife said no more smoking in front of me or our baby when it gets here; quit or move, but didn't stop chewing and the occasional good cigar once in a while, maybe twice a month. By good I mean a Cuban Cohiba. I get them by the box in Mexico. Spousal unit is now pestering me to quit my dip. My dentist tells me he can't even tell I use spit tobacco so it's hard to have any motivation. Chew is sort of ubiquitous around here. Almost everybody has a can of Copehagen in their pocket. If it's bothering you you ought to just cold turkey it and be done. (EZ for me to say.I'm as big a nic addict as I ever was, I just don't smoke.) By the way, do NOT take up chew, it's much harder to quit than smokes.
The problem with switching from one nicotine delivery system to another as I see it is, what do you do when your method of choice runs out and you can't get to the store? Since you've still got the nicotine monkey on your back you'll go back to whatever it was you were doing that you switched from. Rewind. Start over. No good.
