This is one point where I strongly disagree. You're trying to take the middle of the road............point her in the direction of the externship but without any recommendation to the person who will make the decision.

If you cannot make an unqualified recommendation and get her the position, then back away and say nothing.

It's an either/or proposition. No middle ground here. The reason is simple. If it doesn't work out, you compromise your position with the friend's dad, whether you make a "recommendation" or not.

So, be sure that she's going to come through..............
