The coolant is routed to heat the diesel fuel. The heater is mounted next to the engine mounting arm on the right. It is a funny looking thing with 3 to 4 hoses coming out. Some members here by-passed the heater by rerouting the fuel line to the primary filter. If you block the coolant then it is SAME as by-passing the heater.

If I were you, I would try to make it works, unless it is pitted thru which I doubt. If the thread is OK, then the problem probably the inside is pitted and the o-ring cannot seal it. Have you tried to sand it down and get a bigger o-ring?

My last resort is to find a snug plug and JB weld/hammer-ish into it. The coolant is max at 20psi, I think. So any plug would hold. No harm done this way as you can always replace it by threading it out. This is just me but the final decision is yours.
