Several people in this thread have been saying that I might have been involved in a collision with someone who wasn't paying attention, speeding or using a cell phone. My assertion is that those individuals already put themselves in danger by doing such (i.e. speeding/cell phone/distracted), and that my being stopped didn't increase the danger any.

For those people who travel that route on a regular basis your being on the side of the road is something they are not familiar with as opposed to the stop sign which has not moved.
Even for those who do not travel the route a car stuck in the road is out of place and addmultiple unknowns to the scenario.
Say what you want but I don't think you have a valid argument when you say your actions did not add any risk to the commute.
