The manual swap seems to be pretty simple all things considered for a M103 powered W126 when I looked into it some time ago.
I have seen a few manual 280SE grey market 126s in the yards.

Also make us all overdrive modules that we can install after the transmission. Sell them for $50 install. Because racecar.
