if you have an MB rebuilt, I wouldn't be too concerned. They can still fail, but it's less likely. If you have the original engine with that kind of mileage, well it is what it is- keep driving it. It has been fine this far and even though we tend to expect more from an MB diesel, this is a higher mileage than any car company intends for their vehicles to achieve.
There is nothing you can do to prevent a rod failure. The failure can reveal itself in a couple of ways. You might not notice anything until you start burning lubricating oil, or it might be that your car starts to run unevenly. There is a 3rd potential for failure in your engine. It has a windage tray installed, and the bolts that hold it in place have been known to work loose and find their way into the oil pump. It's what killed my '91's 350. You CAN prevent this by dropping the oil pan, and loctiting the bolts in place.
