Now i know . Never ask Mercedes for technical advice, and clockwise loosens.

Clueless how to get that cap nut back on. it is wedged at an angle under the rocker arm. Even if i can pry it into place with screwdrivers and vicegrips, i'm totally confident that it will screw on cross threaded as usual.

What to do???
