The 84 & 85 Turbo charger has an ARV valve in the casting on the front of the intake side. (Air recirulation valve) it is vacuum operated, works with the EGR. It dumps some of your boost. part of the emissions system.

The 85 Federal and the 85 Calif model are a little different. Calif model had the added trap oxidizer, so the manifolds were cast to mount up higher and the Turbo halves were clocked around a little.
Here is a picture of how the eng on a cali looked. you can see the ARV on the front.

Use a turbo from a 83 or older and it won`t have ARV, unless you need it for your emissions.

there were three HP ratings on the OM616...

1) Not much power
2) Even less power
3) Not nearly enough power!! 240D w/auto

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.
