Prosecutors and prison officials are not the ones responsible for the really, really mean treatment of bad guys, they are the agents of the public acting, ideally, to protect us from malevolent individuals. I say ideally because some do screw up.
If this trend were to become more widespread, could get harder to find quality people for the positions.
