There are plenty of adventures to be had on this earth that entail much less pointless danger than climbing Everest. Just in the Cascade Mountains of north/central WA state are some really challenging climbs that would cost far less to undertake and entail much less risk that your friends and family will be inwardly shaking their heads at your funeral.

Reminds me a bit of the crowd who's fondest ambition is to go to Mars where they will be trapped in a space about as big as an RV for the rest of their life.
