I just want to get the 17cc so it can improve lower speed performance. I don't understand how the variable displacement compressors work, so I ASSUME you can't just throw one in and it uses electronic inputs to adjust the low side pressure? All I know is that the CLK320's A/C leaves you frozen and my 300TE leaves back sweat.
The variable input compressors work just like the old variable Harrison compressor worked. They would upstroke when the returning refrigerant was not chilled enough. The current era of compressors are G spiral type, they dont lose their efficiency as fast as piston ones do. The current variable ones are electricky - they have a system that works on duty cycle (saw that on a VW diesel)

For A/C performance, my E300 W124 will numb you so much you need to thaw out for a good 15 minutes. It uses R134 (factory fill) with twin fans on the condenser.
