The main battery on a Prius was once priced at $7,800. Toyota wondered why they never sold one.

It was because they had overlooked a market force everyone here understand: The auto salvage yard.

The battery is built in such a protected manner than they normally survive even the most terrible crash. When the car goes to the salvage yard this is the part the wrecking yard guys sell first. Usually for about $1,200. I don't know what is required to install it, but it can be done by anyone at home who understands what a took kit is.

So Toyota recently dropped the price of the battery to be more in line with the wrecking yards. The wrecking yards just dropped their price.

I understand that a MC new from Toyota might cost a bundle, but what would one cost used? And.... Can they be rebuilt?
