Yes, both are very nasty pieces. With my M103 and since I have a lift, I would be inclined to pull both. But if I had to do yours in my garage, I think I would go just transmission. You have to get it high off the ground though. You need room to work and to slide it out then in. That slide out and in is a good two man job, probably best done with a light duty transmission jack.
