For the U.S., the 300CE (1990-1992) was fitted with the 3.0 liter M104 24-valve motors. They produced 217 hp and 195 ft-lbs. torque. These engines redline at 7,000 rpm. The factory claim was 148mph.

In 1993, the CE's were fitted with a 3.2 liter M104 engine, for slightly better torque rating...229 ft.-lbs. They were still rated (in the U.S.) at 217hp. However, the top speed was a little lower: 144 mph......possibly due to a lower redline.....(these engines redline at 6,400rpm if I recall correctly.)

Car & Driver's article from the April 1991 issue (starting on page 172) quoted a tested 0-60 mph time for the 3.0 motor of 7.7 seconds, the 1/4 mile in 16.1 @ 89mph and a top speed of 147mph for the U.S. model.

Yes, these smooth inline sixes can really haul!
